The living organisms on the earth ar divided into 5 kingdoms:

1. Prokaryota
2. Protoctista
3. Plantae
4. Fungi
5. Animalia

All of these kingdoms contain the organisms which are described by their respective names, such as kingdom Protista contains all protists and prokaryotes, kingdom Fungi contains all fungi etc. However, the kingdom Protoctista remains the exception where unlike other kingdoms, unicellular eukaryotes exist. These organisms belong to vasy variety of classes such as slime moulds, small unicellular organisms etc. However, they technically cannot be classified as plants, animals or prokaryotes. Hence the acquisition of the position by these organisms in this kingdom remains a matter of debate and our increasing understanding about this kingdom and variuos organisms inhabitant in it is continuously evolving.
