Why do Black Americans have a higher prevalence of strokes compared to Whites?
The black Americans aged upto 45 years showed a higher risk of strokes as compared to the white Americans of the same age for the first stroke. The study conducted by Virginia J. Howard found that the high prevalance of the risk factors in th eblack Americans, such as hypertension, Diabeted mellitus, and lower education levels contributed to most of the cases of strokes in black Americans. Other factors that were found to increase the risk of stroke in black Americans were the presence of the racial differences, novel risk factors, such as psychological factors, inflammation etc.
