The actin cytoskeleton is a dynamic structure in plant cells. What features of the actin cytoskeleton regulate the dynamic organisation of this structure in plant cells?
In actin cytoskeleton, the actin filaments are very long and flexible structures that are cross-linked into imperfect bundles and networks. These filaments control the shape and morphology of the cell by assembling and disassembling themselves. Besides the ability of actin cytoskeleton to control the shape and morphology of the cell through actin filaments, the ratio of cytoskeletal proteins is also not rigidly maintained, which imparts additional dynamism to the structure of the cell. These features of actin cytoskeleton allow the moving cells to assume many shapes and to vary them easily. However, this dynamism in actin cytoskeleton does not always have the chance to form well-organized, highly ordered cell structures as in the moving cells the assembling and dissembling of actin filaments happen very rapidly.
