Virus:

A. How do DNA and RNA virus differ with respect to making mRNA?

B. Compare and contrast the lytic and lysogenic replication cycle of bacteriophages.

C. How do virus impact nutrient cycling in the ocean environment?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Sol 1. DNA viruses do not need reverse transcriptase enzyme while RNA viruses have a reverse transcriptase enzyme.

Sol 2.  The most important difference between lysogenic and lytic cycle is: In a lysogenic cycle viral DNA spread takes place by prokaryotic reproduction. On the other hand in a lytic cycle, it results in formation of many copies leading to death of the cell fastly.

Sol 3. Viruses of marine ecosystem are important as they help in nutrient cycling. They cause lysis of cells and release compounds such as amino acids and nucleic acids.
