What are two common electron carriers used in biological cells and briefly describe their role in ATP production.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The electron carriers are responsible for transporting of electrons during cellular respiration . These electron carriers carry electrons and helps in production of ATP and synthesis energy . The examples of the electron carriers are cytochromes , coenzyme Q

Role of cytochrome c ---- cytochrome c is heme protein . It transports electrons between complex III and complex IV .Transport of electrons causes accumulation of protons in the intermembrane space and these proteins helps in ATP production

Role of coenzyme Q ---- In mitochondria it is the main component of the oxidative phosphorylation . It helps in conversion of carbohydrates and fatty acids into the chemical energy called ATP .
