For the following E.coli genotype

trpR- trpP+ trpO+ trpE+ / trpR+ trpP+ trpOc trpE-

the production of the first enzyme (trpE) in the tryptophan operon is

constitutive

inducible

zero

repressible

Homework Answers

Answer #1

the production of enzyme (trpE) in this is Repressible.

Genes under Oc operator are expressed constitutively but trpE gene under Oc operator is mutated. So only trpE will be expressed which is present on the first Operon and it is under wild-type operator. Active repressor can bind to wild-type operator and can repress the expression in the presence of Tryptophan.

As presence of Tryptophan makes represser active. So enzyme will be preduced when there is no Tryptophan and expression will be repressed in presence of Tryptophan.

A newly identified bacterial strain needs nedine as a growth factor. To synthesize nedine these bacteria use three enzymes that are encoded by the genes nedA, nedB and nedC in the ned operon. The expression of these three genes is controlled by a regulatory protein NedR. Nedine binds to NedR, and it changes the ability of NedlR to bind to the regulatory region of the ned operon. The ned genes are expressed only in the absence of nedine. The regulator...
