Food poisoning is occurs due to contaminated foods. These contaminated foos contain either bacteria, virus or their toxic products or both. The most significant complication other than death is dehydration occurs due to continuded vomiting and diarrhoea. Dehydration may results into hypovolamia (decreased blood volume)and thus may affect cardiovascular system.

The part of digestive tract affected is intestine. There are two basic forms of food poisoning:

1. Intoxication: Intoxication occurs due to ingestion of toxins with food. The onset of disease is very rapid. It takes shorter time for recovery.

2. Infection: Infection occurs due to ingestion of bacteria or virus or their spores with food. The onset of symptoms take longer time. Also it takes longer time for recovery.
