Traits that were once adaptive can also be maladaptive depending on the context of the environment.

True/False

Homework Answers

Answer #1

True

"It may metaphorically be said that natural selection is daily and hourly scrutinising, throughout the world, the slightest variations; rejecting those that are bad, preserving and adding up all that are good; silently and insensibly working, whenever and wherever opportunity offers, at the improvement of each organic being in relation to its organic and inorganic conditions of life". Darwin (1872, p. 65)

From these words of Darwin we can definitely say the above statement is true.Because the changes in evironment are unpredictable and unrecognisable...especially the future thats going to come..so in such a case we can say that traits that were adaptive may become maladaptipve and vice versa
