Importance of MHC matching.
What is humanized monoclonal antibody?
Describe GVHD as it relates to bone marrow transplant.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1) Major histocompatibility (MHC) antigens helps T cells to distinguish the self antigens from foreign antigens. MHC plays an important role in transplant rejection. Therefore, MHC matching most importantly HLA antigen matching is important to prevent transplant rejection.

2) Humanized monoclonal antibody is defined as that antibody that is made in the laboratory by combining both human antibody and rat monoclonal antibody. The mouse part of the antibody binds to the target antigen and human part of the antibody prevents it from being destroyed by the body's immune system.

3) In graft Vs host disease (GVHD), the transplanted bone marrow recognises the host body tissues as foreign and the transplanted bone marrow produces antibody against the host.
