please explains how you got your answer: how many net ATP mole equivalents are obtained from they complete oxidation of 2 moles of glycerol to CO2 and H2O in muscle cell?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

glycerol is oxidised to glceraldehyde 3 phosphate which enters glycolysis(produces 1 NADH and use 1 ATP )

so 2 molecules of glycerol produce 2 NADH and use 2ATP

2 molecules of glceraldehyde 3 phosphate in glycolysis gives 2 NADH and 4 ATP with pyruvate as the end product

pyruvate enters TCA cycle 8 NADH and 2 FADH2 and 2ATP

NADH and FADH2 in electron transport chain produce ATP=12 NADH+2FADH2+4ATP-2ATP+2ATP=37 ATP

(NADH produces 2.5 ATP in ETC and FADH2 produces 1.5 ATP)
