There are many genes which control the circadian rhythm of the body example , cry , per, clock etc. They control the genes and functions of the cell related to a 24 hour cycle . Like sleep, metabolism , immunity etc.

Environmental effects life light also control our 24 hour cycle. So for example presence or absence of light will determine our sleep pattern. Which is also governed by genes life clock.

The expression of the genes inscreases or decreases depending on the environmental effect. Some recent studies have shown epigenetic regulation of some genes which are responsible for the circadian rhythm, which is also basically a part of environmental effect .
