activated endothelial cells of capillaries near damaged tissue display adhesion molecules called selections ,which attract neutrophils in the blood. True or False ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer - True.

Explanation - Selectins are cell adhesion molecules and are expressed in the vascular system. The selectins play an important role in host defense mechanisms. There are three forms of selectins and are named as P - selectin, L- electin and E- selectin.

P- selectin called as Platelet - Selectin is expressed in the activated platelets and endothelial cells. The E- selectin called as Endothelial -Selectin is expressed in activated endothelial cells. The E-selectin help in the adhesion of neutrophils. It does not support the adhesion of eosinophils. L-selectin called as Leukocyte -Selectin is expressed in lymphocyte cells. L selectin have a role in trafficking the lymphocytes into lymphatic tissue.

The statement in the question is about E-selectins. So it is true

Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns (DAMPs) are endogenous molecules released by necrotic cells during tissue injury and that, similarly to Pathogen-Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMPs), trigger an inflammatory response. How do you think inflammation is triggered in response to tissue injury? A. DAMPs activate the complement system directly by binding complement C1 and triggering the classical pathway. B. DAMPs bind to TLRs on various cell types including neutrophils and tissue-resident macrophages, which then attract other immune cell types. Moreover, intracellular proteins that are...

QA) Which statement about the inflammation process is not true? Infection causes macrophages to release cytokines, which send a signal that attracts neutrophils to the site of infection. Infection in connective tissue causes mast cells to release histamine, which constricts nearby blood vessels. Increased blood supply to the infected area results in redness. Systemic inflammatory response (septic shock) occurs when inflammation throughout the body results in a high fever, low blood pressure, and reduced flow through capillaries. QB) True or...
