Process of formation of mature ovum from oogonium in females is known as oogenesis. Oogenesis occurs in ovaries.During oogenesis a diploid oogonium odifferentiates into diploid primary oocyte.This diploid primary oocyte undergoes first meiotic division to produce haploid secondary oocyte and a haploid polar body. After second meiotic division secondary oocyte produces haploid ovum and haploid polar body.

Hence, one diploid primary oocyte will produce one haploid ovum.
