There is more energy obtained through the fats as consorted to metabolism of carbohydrates. This difference in oxidation amount, since, since in carbohydrates, carbon dioxide will be converted to water as well as carbon dioxide and in fatty acids, there is conversion of one form of carbon to another form of carbon. In fatty acid oxidation, there is almost half as compared to the number of oxygen atoms consumed in carbohydrates oxidation.

In fatty acid synthesis, where there are 4 basic steps that include condensation, reduction, dehydration as well as reduction. Carbohydrate oxidation, at the end of citric acid cycle, gives 17-25 atp and energy yield for fatty acid synthesis is 14 atp.
