An example of Gram negative bacteria that is found on a different part of body is Escherichia coli. This is found in lower areas of the large intestine . The E.coli is found most commonly in this region along with many other Gram negative bacilli. The host develops an immunity against this species here or else the normal microflora might result in their subsequent disease. The roles of bacteria in the intestine is :

  • Helps in making and secretion of digestive enzymes
  • production of Vitamin K
  • Helps in food breakdown and absorption
