we did a nitrogen reaction in soil where we inoculated casein and peptone broth with soil and Pseudomonas fluorescens to test for ammonification. And nitrate salt medium for denitrification. I wonder why is Pseudomonas fluorescens was used? and not other microorganism? Anyone got an idea?
Pseudomonas fluorescens is referred to as the ammonifier. This is an obligate aerobic bacteria. This bacteria can carry out ammonification. This bacteria had been used because this bacteria could be using nitrite in the form of electron receiver. Also, they have the ability of changing nitrite. P. Fluorescens have the ability of forming ammonium from different organic substances. Followed by this, ammonia would be dispersed to NH3 in the atmosphere. Hence, p.flourescens was used.
