Homework Answers

Answer #1

Here, the correct option is b) fertilisation (entry of the sperm into the egg)

Explanation -

The female ova is formed by the meiosis division, process known as oogenesis. From oogonium, diploid primary oocyte is formed by mitosis division.

The primary oocyte start to undergo meiosis 1 but it arrest in the prophase 1of meosis 1, this takes place before birth.

After puberty, the meiosis 1 continues and secondary oocyte is formed. Secondary oocyte is haploid but meiosis is not completed. It agains arrest at the Metaphase 2 of meiosis 2.

After fertilisation by sperm, when sperm penetration takes place the the meosis is completed to form mature ovum.
