Step 1: Synythesis of palmitate from Malonyl–CoA

(Transfer of Acetyl CoA from mitochondria to cytosol)

8 Acetyl-CoA + 7 malonyl-CoA + 14 NADPH + 20 H+ --------> palmitate + 7 CO2 + 14 NADP+ + 8 CoA + 6 H2O

Step 2: Formation of  Malonyl–CoA from Acetyl–CoA

7 Acetyl-CoA + 7 CO2 + 7 ATP --------> 7 Malonyl-CoA + 7 ADP + 7 Pi + 14 H+

Sum of the reactions

8 Acetyl-CoA + 7 ATP + 14 NADPH + 6 H+ ---------> palmitate + 14 NADP+ + 8 CoA + 6 H2O + 7 ADP + 7 Pi

Acetyl CoA for fatty acid synthesis obtained from glycolytic breakdown of glucose.
