Observation: Hiking trails with more human foot traffic have less woody vegetation (e.g, trees) than hiking trails with less human traffic.

  1. Create a hypothesis to explain the observation.
  2. Design an experiment to test this hypothesis.
  3. Make a prediction about your result.

Answer #1

The trees live in places where the human foot does not falls.Because the path where the humans walk the trees can not grow properly.

So in the hiking path with more human foot traffic contains less trees than the hiking path with less trees, even the contain of grass is also less in the path where humans walks.

In order to make a experiment we can speread some seeds of fast growing shurbs like bush & grass in the public garden and then we have to observe for few weeks. We will observe that the planted seeds will mature to seedling every where but where the humans walks the seedings will not grow or the grown seedlings will die due to human foot or walking.

So it is the actual problem that the trees on the hiking trails face due to traffic of human foot.

It is known that roughly 2/3 of all human beings have a dominant right foot or eye. Is there also right-sided dominance in kissing behavior? An article reported that in a random sample of 121 kissing couples, both people in 77 of the couples tended to lean more to the right than to the left. (Use α = 0.05.) (a) If 2/3 of all kissing couples exhibit this right-leaning behavior, what is the probability that the number in a sample...

The Reliable Housewares store manager wants to learn more about the purchasing behavior of its "credit" customers. In fact, he is speculating about four specific cases shown below (a) through (d) and wants you to help him test their accuracy. The average annual income of credit customers is less than $48,000. The true population proportion of credit customers who live in an urban area exceeds 55%. The average number of years lived in the current home is less than 14...

Limpets are small snail-like mollusks that have more or less conical (rather than coiled) shells. Many species of limpets can exist in saltwater but may also move into brackish water (less salty than seawater, but still not quite freshwater). A researcher was interested to see if existing in water with different salt concentrations altered the rate at which two species of limpets (Acmaea scabra and Acmaea digitalis) consumed oxygen (measured in µL of O2/mg of dry body weight/minute). The salt...

Activity 1: Scientific Reports You may have heard the question “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” A similar question can be asked about experiments. “If a researcher performs an experiment and never publishes the result has science been performed?” Many people would say no because science is the accumulation of knowledge. If the results of an experiment are not published, knowledge is not gained. The final...

Have you ever wondered what it means to click the “offset carbon emissions” button when you book a flight or train trip? It adds a small cost to your ticket, but how does this reduce emissions? The money is typically used to fund projects that reduce carbon emissions. One such project type is the introduction of more efficient cooking stoves into communities. Much of the world uses inefficient charcoal or wood stoves that result in excessive indoor air pollution, deforestation,...

3. Premature infants often have difficulty regulating their body temperature because of their low birth weight and low body fat. Researchers hypothesized that immersion bathing in warm water would improve temperature regulation relative to the common practice of sponge bathing. Eight infants where available to test the hypothesis; four were randomly assigned to each of the two conditions (immersion, sponge) during their stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The dependent variable was body temperature 15 minutes after the...

Economists in Fundlandia, a closed economy, have collected the following information about GDP and public savings in their country: Y = 1000 G = 100 T = 100 They further estimate that national savings and investment are governed by the following expressions: S = 150 + 50*r I = 600 - 100*r Where r is the country's real interest rate in % terms (thus if you find r = 5, then r is 5%). MTH 241 COMMON DATA ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT (Fall 2018) Previous studies have shown that urban bus drivers have an extremely stressful job, and a large proportion of drivers retire prematurely with disabilities due to occupational stress. These stresses come from a combination of physical and social sources such as traffic congestion, incessant time pressure, and unruly passengers. In the paper, “Hassles on the Job: A Study of a Job Intervention with Urban Bus Drivers” (Journal of Organizational Behavior, Vol. 20, pp....
