Ans) Yam belongs to Dioscorea Genus as well as belongs to Diosceocreaceae Family in tropic , East Asia , India amd South America. It is one of the most important tubercrop. Almost there are 600 species is known worldwide but only 6 species are chosen as edible namely , White Yam , Water Yam , Yellow Yam , Aerial Yam , Chinese Yam and Trifoniate Yam. In Nigeria , it is a staple food and it is used in the production of starch in industries. Nigeria is one of the largest producer of the Yam.

Yam is an important part of religious activities of several tricommunities in Nigeria. The farmers of Nigeria produce Yam on a large scale. The variable used in the production of Yam includes land , labour amd capital. These variables are utilised to draw the economatric model which is a function of agro forestry farmer production.
