Explain why it is not possible to use the PAR formula for a cohort study to calculate the PAR for a case control study?
PAR is the proportion of disease in a population which can be prevented by eliminating causal exposure or risk factor from population & generally can be expressed as a percentage.
PAR can be estimated from case-control or cross sectional studies using formulae that combine the prevalence of exposure to a risk factor and a measure of the impact of that risk factor on the development of disease. It is not possible to use the PAR formula for cohort study because in a cohort study the outcome measure is the risk ratio/relative risk. In cohort study exposed and unexposed groups get recruited from the same source population.
