How was vaccines discovered by edward jenner and how did it change the scientific though of immuology
In 1792 cowpox was prevalent in milkmaids in london. He found one milkmaid who contracted pox virus due to the infection in cattle with development of lesions on arms.He took samples of the specimen and cut it and infected a small boy James Phipps who contracted small pox after infection. This led to the activation of the immune system of the small boy against the virus but after second innoculation of this sample, a strong immune system was developed.He wrote a book on vaccination which was later sent to many countries in Europe. Later he received prize from the government of United Kingdom after explaining the development of the immune system response after exposure of the body to dead samples of the pox virus which provided immunity to the body.
