Which one is best statement of Evolution is ?

A shift in allele frequency due to mixing of species

B a change in allele frequency because a selection pressure has caused mutations

C a change in allele frequency because individuals with a particular allele have a selection advantage in a particular environment

D the divergence of traits in different species as a result of the same selection pressure

Answer #1

The best statement of evolution is option (C) a change in allele frequency because individuals with a particular allele have a selection advantage in a particular in evironment.

Option (A) is incorrect as evolution is not a result of shift in allele frequency due to mixing of species. (B) is also incorrect since selection pressure does not "cause" the mutation , infact random mutations occure during reproduction where mutation hich increase the fitness of organism in a given selection pressure results in evolution.

Option (D) is also incorrect since, the divergence of traits in a single specie as a result or same or different selection pressure leads to speciation under the process of evolution.

All of these but one can be caused by natural selection. Which could NOT be a result of natural selection? New alleles being added to the population as necessary Different phenotypes within a species being favored in different habitats. Decreased allele frequency in a population Higher fitness in best-adapted individuals.

A large population of fish live in a lake. The color of their scales is determined by two different alleles of the S gene, S1 and S2. Homozygous S1 fish have yellow scales, S2 homozygotes have blue scales, and heterozygotes are green. Scientists catch 100 fish at random and record their color. Among those 100 fish are 30 yellow, 50 blue, and 20 green ones. After the original sample is analyzed, an asteroid landed in the lake and killed all...

You collect several thousand Drosophila melanogaster individuals from the UCD campus. You take 1000 flies, establish a population in the laboratory and maintain it at a size of 1000 each generation. You then establish from the remaining flies a series of replicated populations of size 10, 100, 200, and 500 and maintain each at the starting size (10, 100, 200, 500) for several generations. After some time you sequence each lab population. a. If one plotted for each lab population,...
