Mesophyll cells acquire the water required for photosynthesis by absorbing it from the humid atmosphere. True or false?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: False

Mesophyll cell acquire water from the xylem which transport water in plant from root to leaves, not form the humid environment.

Explanation:-

Mesophyll cell are saturated with cellulose microfibrils (primary cell wall). This keep the water adsorb on it. Leaves has many air spaces lie sponge for exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide required for photosynthesis. Water evaporate form surface of this mesophyll cell create suction pressure and thereby pull the water from xylem.

The upper and lower layers of the leaf are formed by epidermal cells, with a waxy cuticle covering the outer surface. The cuticle protects the epidermis and reduces water loss. Below the upper epidermis are the palisade mesophyll cells, the primary site of photosynthesis in the leaf. Below the palisade layer is the spongy mesophyll layer, consisting of loosely packed photosynthetic cells. The loose arrangement of the spongy mesophyll allows for high uptake of carbon dioxide and release of oxygen...

Water is supplied to the atmosphere by evaporation from the surface, and leaves the atmosphere via precipitation. The average amount of time a water molecule spends in the atmosphere can be derived by dividing the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere (1.1?1016 ??) by the globally-averaged rate of precipitation to the Earth’s surface of 3.1 ?? ??? −1 . Using these data, calculate how many days, on average, a water molecule spend in the atmosphere before it precipitates out.
