Energy density of ethanol is 6,100 Wh/L while the energy density of gasoline is 9,700Wh/L. Explain this difference in terms of bioethanol industrial commercialization for transportation.
Microalgae can be used to produce fuels and high value products under autotrophic, mixotrophic and heterotrophic conditions. What could justify the use of microalgae under heterotrophic condition to produce fuels?
The greater the energy density, the more energy produced per unit of measure. However energy content of bioethanol is low but it has better ignitiion and higher fuel quality and it is also renewable and eofriendly. Bioethanol also helps in reducing the amount of harmful green house gases (GHP).Heterotrophic microalgae does not require sunlight so, it can be grow anywhere (tanks) using very little land. Waste water can be used and they can be feed on sorghum, corn sugar, local sugar, paper waste, etc. It can multiply the feedstocks many times in a short period. Microalgae are economically beneficial for fuel production than any other species.
