Answer #1

Transductant is a bacterial cell into which material has been transduced or a cell or organism (bacterium) that has undergone transduction.

The probability of successful infection with lambda viruses per cell is 1-(1-r) lambda and the total number of infected cell is I=T. The transduction efficiency (TE) is the percentage of successful infected cell in the total cells, so TE= I/T= 1-(1-r) lambda.

Bacteria grow best at 37°C which is body temperature. Bacteria like moist conditions. Bacteria grow best in a neutral pH between 6.6 and 7.5. Most bacteria needs oxygen to survive. Warm and dark environment is needed.

Respond to this 2 part question that has different data for each: A) The table below summarizes the results of a replica-plating experiment where a mixture of plated E. coli strains of different genotypes were tested for their ability to growth on a variety of media. It can be used to determine the number of colonies with particular phenotypes based on genotypes of Cloroamphenicol resistance (CloR or CloS), the ability to synthesize lysine (lys+) and the ability to synthesize phenylalanine...

You have been given 6 new strains of Bacillus sp. recently isolated from a mine site. In order to gain some understanding about these strains you set up growth experiments to determine their growth over 24 hours. A spread plate viable cell count technique was utilised. The bacteria were grown at 37oC in a nutrient broth medium and samples were taken after 24 hrs. Each sample was serially diluted from 10-1 to 10-4 and 100 µl aliquots were plated onto...
