Homework Answers

Answer #1

ANSWER: The intestinal alkaline phophatse has a protective function since it helps in regulation of intestinal pH absorption of lipids and detoxification of toxins. Also it protects intestinal mucosa from inflammation and has a role in modifying the intestinal microflora.

In the deficiency of Alkaline phosphatase, this protective role is lost leading to increased risk of diseases, due to changed microflora and also intestinal inflammation. This can even lead to systemic inflammaton and finally sepsis.
