Image you can trace a particular oxygen atom in an oxygen molecule you have just inhaled. Describe all possible molecules this oxygen atom may end up with.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans. Oxygen we inhale is used as terminal electron acceptor in electron transport system (ETC) and water is formed. Hence, water produced as a result of cellular respiration contains oxygen we inhale. Oxidation of glucose involves the production of CO2 as a biproduct and this CO2 produced is resulted with the utilization of oxygen we inhale and hence oxygen we inhale end up in CO2 during aerobic respiration. Oxygen we inhale combines with haemoglobin to form oxyhaemoglobin.

Calculate the dipole moment of a water molecule. Assume the angle between the two OH bonds is 104o and that the OH distance is 1.0 x 10-8 cm. Take the OH bonds to be purely ionic in character by assuming that all ten electrons orbit the oxygen atom. Give your answer for the dipole moment in Debye units (D) where 1 D = 3.34 x 10-30 C-m. Which of the following statements is LEAST ACCURATE/FALSE (choose one): A A positive charge is associated with the hydrogen of a water molecule B If it was possible to remove one proton from a helium atom, you would end up with a hydrogen atom C If an ion is dissolved in water, and the oxygen atoms of the water molecule are oriented toward the ion, then the ion must have a positive charge. D A positive charge is associated with...

More than one distinct quantum state of a system can have a particular value of energy. Here we remember to count all the states in figuring out the probability that a small system has a particular energy value. The molecule can be in one of six states. It exchanges energy with a thermal reservoir of other molecules at a temperature T. State 1 has EA, states 2 and 3 each have energy EB = 3EA, and states 4,5, and 6...
