C3 effects which pathway? Ficolin effects which pathway? C1 effects which pathway? C5 effects which pathway? C4b2a effects which pathway? Factor B effects which pathway?

Choices a. All Three Pathways b. Lectin Pathway c. Alternative pathway d. Classical Pathway e. Classical and Lectin

Homework Answers

Answer #1

ANSWER:

1.) e, plasma.

EXPLANATION: The complement system is made up of certain proteins which are found in the plasma. The complement system is actually series of events occuring in order to facilitate the killing of pathogen. This system is activated by either the pathogen directly or the antibodies bound to the pathogen.

2.) C3 affects all the pathways, since it is a common protein to all pathways.

Ficolin affects lectin pathway. Ficolin is a recognition molecule of lectin pathway which activates the pathway.

C1 affects classical pathway. C1 is the first protein to be activated in classical pathway.

C5 affects all pathways.

C4b2a affects lectin and classical pathways. Since it is a common intermediate to both of them.

Factor B affects alternative pathways. Factor B is just a part of alternative pathway.
