y = 1E+09x -3E+07 What does it mean? How can I put a value of x and calculate concentration

Answer #1

E is short form for exponent 10 to its right. if the number has a plus sign preceding it then it is 10positive number, and if it has a negative sign preceding it then 10negative number.

So 1E+09 means 1*109

and 3E+07 means 3*107

So the equation becomes,

y=109x-3*107

y=109x-30000000( The equation is of the format y=mx+c, where m=slope, y= y axis value , x= x axis value, c=intercept)

x can be substituted with numerical values and value of y can be found out.

The equation can be used to calculate concentration (x in this case), when the value of y(Absorbance) is known, and is the slope of the line (m)109  and c is 30000000.

so to calculate value of concentration the y must be known and x itself gives the value of the concentration when the graph is concentration(X-axis) vs absorbance(Y-axis)
