Competitive exclusion principle also called as Gause's law, states that " two species competing for the same limited resource cannot coexist at constant population values".

This means if there are two species say A and B species A has the slightest advantage over species B, then species A will dominate over species B in that ecological space in the long term. Thus this will lead either to the extinction of the weaker species B or an evolutionary or behavioral shift of the species B towards a different ecological niche. Thus in nutshell "complete competitors can't coexist".
