Ans:- If a lot of mitochondria in the body are effected, especially in important body organs, mitochondrial disease can be serious and often fatal. Each effected individual will have different symptoms and severity of the condition. Some of the mitochondrial diseases are such as:-

1) Mitochondrial Myopathy

2) Diabetes mellitus and deafness

3) Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy

4) Myoneurogenic gastrointestinal encephalopathy

5) MELAS syndrome

And these mitochondrial disorders occurs due to mutations (acquired or inherited), in mitochondrial DNA or in nuclear genes that code for mitochondrial components
