Cristina Diaz is a spongiology expert and a taxonomist. She is a PhD from University of California. Presently she works as a scientist at Margarita Marine Museum at Nueva Esparta, Venezuela.  She has dedicated her life to the discovery and identifying the sponges and their anatomy. She classifies various types of inter tidal and tropical sponge.

Sponges are mainly found in the marine environment only. They are found in various type of aphotic and photic zones. From deep sea water of 7000 to 8000 meter or on the shallow sea water where they remain attached to sea bed. According to Cristina Diaz research she is presently working on the sponges varities and their behavioural charachters found off the shore from the North Sulawesi Island in Indonesia.
