Question

Can a start codon "AUG" only be used once in a DNA sequence?

Can a start codon "AUG" only be used once in a DNA sequence?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

I believe the correct answer to be:

NO, it can be used as much time as needed based on the sequence of the gene but the first time that it is encountered as the ribosome scans the mRNA from the 5' end is where the translation starts. The AUG codon can be encountered again in the middle of the sequence and a methionine amino acid will be added like any other codon.

feel free to leave a comment down below for any further query. good rating would be appreciated if you find my answer helpful. thank you.
