Question

what is the atomic number of an element that has 43 protons and 50 neutrons

what is the atomic number of an element that has 43 protons and 50 neutrons

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Atomic number of an atom is  same as proton number.

(Atomic number = proton number )

The number of proton present in the nucleus of an atom is known as atomic number or proton number.

Atomic number is specific and unique for each atom / element . i.e atomic number of two atom cant be same.

The summation of atomic number and number of nutrons present in the nucleus of an atom is known as mass number . ( mass number = atomic number + nutron number)  nutron number and mass number could be same for two different atoms / molecules

Here in this question , the atom has 43 proton hence its atomic number would be 43.

(And mass number of that atom will be 43+50=93)

The atom with 43 atomic number is Technetium (Tc)

Which experiments prove atomic theory? Sub-atomic theories: atoms have: nuclei; electrons; protons; and neutrons. That the number of electrons atoms have determines their relationship with other atoms. That the atom is the smallest elemental unit of matter - that we can't continue to divide atoms into anything smaller and have them retain the characteristics of the parent element. That everything is made of atoms. These sub-theories might spur more thoughts of individual experiments that prove individual sub-atomic theories (my guess...
