Answer #1

In glycolysis there are 2 steps :

1.preparatory phase

2.pay off phase

In preparatory phase 2 molecules of ATP consumed to conversion of glucose to fructose -1,6- bis phosphate.

But in pay off phase, 2 molecules of ATP produced when the conversion of 1,3- bisphospho glycerate to 3- phosphoglycerate takes place. And another 2 molecules of ATP produced in conversion of phosphoenol pyruvate to pyruvate.

So , total 4 ATP produced and 2 ATP consumed. Therefore, the net ATP formed during glycolysis is 4-2= 2

Hence the answer is 2.

Glycolysis requires ATP and yet is an important step in cellular respiration - the process by which we make ATP. How can this be? Glycolysis requires a net ATP input but produces GTP, which is needed for the rest of cellular respiration Glycolysis results in a net ATP output Glycolysis is not part of respiration, it is only used in fermentation Glycolysis requires a net ATP input, but produces carbon dioxide, which is needed for the rest of cellular respiration
