In the electron transport chain, the coenzyme, ___, passes hydrogen and electrons to oxygen to form water, which is essential to life. (B vitamin niacin, B vitamin thiamine, B vitamin biotin)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer- In the electron transport chain, the coenzyme, B vitamin niacin , passes hydrogen and electrons to oxygen to form water, which is essential to life.

Explanation- B vitamin forms NADH( Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) which is involved in electron transport chain. It forms complex I i.e. NADH dehydrogenase in electron transport chain which in series through other complexes passes hydrogen and electrons to oxygen to form water, which is essential to life. other two vitamins- thiamine and biotin are not involved in electron transport chain. Their function is as follows-

  • B vitamin thiamine, coenzyme TPP( Thiamine Pyrophosphate), is used in the metabolism of branched- chain amino acids and carbohydrates.
  • B vitamin biotin, coenzyme, is used in carboxylation reactions.

Which is true about how are cells use oxygen? A. When oxygen is present pyruvate is converted to lactate which enters the citric acid cycle. The reduced coenzymes donate hydrogen ions and high energy electrons to the electron transport chain, and oxygen acts as the final acceptor of hydrogen ions and low energy electrons after the hydrogen ions have passed through ATP synthase. B. When oxygen is present pyruvate is converted to Acetyl CoA which enters the citric acid cycle....
