EGF receptor is internalized in clathrin coated pits and endosome formed may recycle back to the plasma membrane or undergo degradation in lysosomes.

Recycling or degradation depends on the PH of the endosome, if PH decreases by increase in proton pumps it will target it for degradation and hence reduce the EGF signals.

For EGF signals to enhance the proton pumps must be inhibited which will increase the PH and recycle the EGF receptor for further signalling
