can natural selection act on a trait if it has a heritibility of R2 0.1225? explain why or why not using the requiremnents of natural selection???

Answer #1

Yes , natural selection can act on a trait having heritability value i.e r2 = 0.1225.

This is firstly possible because natural selection works on heritability between the range of 0-1. Furthermore, natural selection is performed on triats that are heritable during course of change. Heritability of 0.1225 is not a major value , or all the traits could not have heritable basis of phenotypic variation but it does counts for something in terms getting acted upon during natural selection.

The requirements of natural selection-

Reproduction, variation in organisms, difference in characters ans heredity.

These are the basic requirements.

With need of heredity, it also requires acquired characteristics of the trait as well .

So it ia possible.

Q) A broad sense heritability figure which shows the relationship- between parental egg size and offspring egg size has an r2 value of 0.1225, would natural selection act upon the egg size? - The value means that offspring do not resemble parent, any change is due to environment. so will natural selection act on the egg size trait? why or why not pls explain in detail
