Biomass allocation is the process of distribution of biomass in the plant. It is the end result of the number of the process by which the sugar fixed by leaves are allocated over the different organ.

Respond to shade- Biomass allocation to root decrease and shoot increase when plants are grown in shade.

Respond to nutrient- At low nutrient levels, plant invests more in roots and less in the shoot and at high nutrient level plant invest more in shoot than in root.

Respond to water- The change is very little to the concentration of water.

Respond to grazing- The biomass allocation increases to shoot where there is high grazing and vice versa.
