Does natural selection always result in evolution?

Does natural selection always result in evolution?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Natural selection may not always leads to evolution. Natural selection can sometimes defined as a change in the frequency of alleles in a population due to selection. If the differences among individuals are not genetically based ,it may not lead to evolution. For causing an evolution trait variants must be transmitted from parent to offspring. In this case, the offspring will resemble their parents and the trait variants possesed by the parents that produce more offspring will increase in frequency in the next generation. In some cases , the individuals donot vary phenotypically because they are genetically different. And we conclude that if the variation in a population is not genetically based , then natural selection doesnot leads to evolution.

An example of ongoing natural selection that dramatically affects humans is the evolution of drug-resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria that can proliferate very quickly. With that in mind, explain how the following statement is inaccurate. "Antibiotics have created drug resistance in MRSA."

Natural selection is a process whereby the best genes are carried on to the next generations. The result of the process whereby genes are successfully reproduced is called evolution.
