Explain how 2 competing hormones keep your blood glucose levels within normal limits.
The two hormones which regulates the blood glucose levels are insulin and glucagon. Both these hormones are secreted by islet cells of pancreas. They helps to maintain homeostasis.
Regulation :
High blood glucose triggers the beta cells of pancreas to release insulin into the blood stream. In response to the released insulin, a number of cells including fat cells, muscle cells and red blood cells of body takes in glucose from the blood, maintaining normal glucose levels.
Low blood glucose triggers alpha cells of to the pancreas to release glucagon. The released glucagon further triggers the liver to release stored glucose from its cells, hence maintaining normal blood glucose levels.
