Assuming an organism has 2n=6 number of chromosomes, give the NUMBER of chromosomes at these stages:
i. Prophase of mitosis
ii. Anaphase I of meiosis
iii. Metaphase I of meiosis
iv. Telophase of mitosis
v. Telophase II of meiosis
1- Prophase of mitosis:
During prophase of mitosis chromatids doubles but number of chromosome remains same therefore given 2n=6 so total number of chromosome at prophase of mitosis will be 6
2- Anaphase 1 of meiosis: In anaphase 1 of meiosis the total number of chromosome will be 6.
3- Metaphase 1 of meiosis: In metaphase 1 of meiosis the chromosome number would be 6.
4-Telophase of mitosis: During telophase of mitosis , chromatids starts separating to separate pole for forming a set of chromosome in the progeny cells, thus total number of chromosome gets double , therefore according to 2n=6, this phase will have total 12 chromosome.
5-Telophase 2 of meiosis: As phase 2 of meiosis is as same as mitosis , and is equational division, thus the chromosome number remains same and according to 2n=6 it will total 6 chromosome in this stage.
