A dog with a NM problem. Let’s say she has too few ligand-gated ACH receptors on her NM junction. See how weak she is? Now at the end, the neurologist gives her an IV injection (after flushing her port before and after). Hypothesize what he could be giving her? Why/how would it work? (Describe)

Answer #1

Ligand gated Ach receptor are invliced in transmission of nerve impulse. In case of some disease, due to presence of autoantibodies there is destruction of the Ach receptor. This leads to decreased transmission of nerve impulse and muscle weakness.

So boist the immune response, Iv IgG ( intra venous IgG) can be given . This immediate provide natural antibodies and boost immune response thus prevent further destruction of AcH receptor. The neurologist must have given injection of Iv Ig to the dog .
