Explain how fat keeps marine mammals warm
Answer:
Most of the marine mammals are warm blooded.Mammals like Whales, sea lions, seals amd many evolved to live in cold waters. They have a layer in the adipose tissue called blubber. It helps these mammals from colder place and prevent them from getting too cold. This is called Fat insulation.
Generally some Cold-blooded marine animals like fish, sharks, crabs, do not require these extra insulation as they stay warm and adapt to the surrounding environment.
Blubber is a thick vascularised layer of fat.All the extra digested fats are stored in the adipose tissue.Along with fat complex collagen matrix makes the blubber.
Blubber is always considered as a primary fat storage site for marine mammals.Generally adipose tissue fatty substances has low thermal conductivity (does not transfer heat). So it keeps the body warm and insulate the marine animals from cold.
Hope this helps you:)
