Question

Explain the importance of bacteria to the global nitrogen cycle.

Explain the importance of bacteria to the global nitrogen cycle.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer:- In the nitrogen cycle, the following processes involve bacteria:-

1) Nitrification-

Ammonia ---------> Nitrite (Nitrosomonas & Nitrococcus)

Nitrite ---------> Nitrate (Nitrobactor)

2) Denitrification-

Nitrate -----------> N2 (Pseudomonas & Thiobacillus)

3) Nitrogen fixation-

N2 -------------> Nitrates (Azotobactor, Beijerinckia, Rhodospirillum, Anabaena, Nostoc)

4) Ammonification-

N2 ------------- Ammonia (Pseudomonas, Proteus, Clostridium, Streptomyces)

Which of the following statements is true? Bacteria obtain nitrogen by fixing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere. Most bacteria can directly use Nitrogen for the atmosphere for growth. Nitrogen is present in trace amounts in the atmosphere. Nitrogen fixation converts atmospheric nitrogen into proteins. Nitrogen is a required component for ATP synthesis. Plants will carry out Nitrogen Fixation to provide nitrogen to bacteria living in association with the plant roots.
