In humans, blood type is a result of multiple alleles: IA, IB, and iO. Based on the type of inheritance exhibited by these alleles complete the following statements .  IA is dominant over ________

IB is dominant over ___________

IAIB are said to be _____________

Two parents who are heterozygous for type A blood . Answer the following questions.

What is the genotype of the parents?

What are the genetic makeups of all the possible gametes they can produce?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Alleles for blood grouping are of 3 types. They are : A, B and O.

A and B are both dominant over O, which means that anyone who is heterozygous for A and O and B and O, will have A and B blood group respectively. While A and B are both codominant meaning if someone is heterozygous for A and B, they will have AB blood group.

So we can say that IA is dominant over IO

IB is dominant over IO

IAIB are codominant

If two parents are heterozygous for type A blood, then it means that they have A and O allele because since A and B are codominant, one can not be heterozygous and still have A blood group.

So parents Genotype are :-

Father :- IAIO

Mother :- IAIO

Gametes they can produce :-

Father - IA and IO

Mother - IA and IO
