What best describes the nutritional strategy of Synechocystis and why
Synechocystis is a cyanobacterium which is generally found in fresh waters. Cyanobacteria include the organisms which shows oxygenic photosynthesis like higher plants. The organism also prepares its food by oxygenic photosynthesis in light. However, when light is not available or during dark conditions, the organism obtains energy from the organic compounds like heterotrophs wherein they show glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation to produce ATP. Therefore the organism belongs to photoorganotrophs which can show photosynthesis as well as obtain energy from organic compounds.
