If we get 36 ATPs in the complete oxidation of one molecule of glucose, how many amino acid residues can be incorporated to a growing polypeptide chain using the energy derived from glucose. Show how you arrived at your answer.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Total 9 amino acid can be incorporated using 36 ATP.

Explanation

For incorporation of one amino acids , 4 ATP molecules are required.

1 ATP during charging of amino acid by amino acyl tRNA synthetase, here 1ATP converted in to AMP and ppi

So here 1 used ATP is equal to 2ATP

- 1GTP during loading of amino acyl tRNA at ASite

1GTP during translocation reaction by EFG .

TOTAL 2 ATP+ 1 GTP( equal to 1 ATP) + 1GTP( 1ATP)

so total 4 ATP are required to incorporate one amino acid.

Here 1 glucose gives 36 ATP

So no of amino acids can be incorporated are = 36/4= 9 amino acid.
