The hallmarks of cancer are the acquired functional capabilities that allow cancer cells to survive, proliferate, and disseminate, known as hallmarks. This allows cancer cells to acquire traits leading to formation of tumors and malignancy. They include: 1.Sustaining proliferative signaling, 2. Evading growth, 3. Suppressors, 4. Resisting cell death, 5. Enabling replicative immortality, 6. Inducing angiogenesis, 7. Activating invasion, 8. Metastasis, 9. Genome instability and 10. Mutation.

Most frequently mutated protein in the cancer is P53 gene. This P53 gene is often mutated in solid tumors, and its involvement in more than 50% of human malignancies. P53 is a transcription factor able to regulate several intracellular pathways involved in cell survival, DNA-repair, apoptosis and senescence.
